About Prague
If you’re planning on visiting the beautiful city of Prague between 28th March and 19th April 2009, you’re in for a treat. The annual Easter Markets will be running during this time and are well worth a look. A wide range of produce will be on display at the quaint stalls and you'll find beautifully hand-crafted wooden toys, crystal ornaments, candles, jewellery and much more besides. The delicately hand-painted Easter eggs are a real treat!

Things to see in Prague

While in Prague, a visit to Prague Castle (Hradčany Castle) is a must! Located high on a hill in the old part of the town overlooking the city, the views from this beautiful structure are breathtaking.

The Charles Bridge is one of Europe’s oldest stone bridges and will take you across the Vltava River from Prague Castle and Mala Strana (known as the ‘lesser town’) and lead you to Prague’s Old Town Square. Here you’ll be able to see the magnificent Astronomical Clock (one of the most popular tourist attractions in Prague city) and the stunning St. Nicholas Church.

Wenceslas Square is the main boulevard in Prague city, offering an abundance of shops, hotels, bars and restaurants. Popular among tourists and locals alike, Wenceslas Square is home to an impressive statue of St. Wenceslas upon his horse. Prague State Opera is situated nearby, as are many of the other most popular Prague tourist attractions.

Prague - Did you know...

» That according to rumour, the creator (Master Hanuš) of the Astronomical Clock in the Old Town Square was allegedly blinded to prevent him from ever making another such masterpiece?

» That there is a “changing of the guard” ceremony at Hradčany Castle daily? It takes place on the hour between 5am and 10pm (and 9am and 10pm in Winter). At midday the display is most impressive as a band plays and banners are exchanged.

Prague Transport Links

There are three main forms of public transport to bring you around the beautiful historic city of Prague - metro, tram and train.
The Prague metro (an underground rail system) is a cheap, fast and reliable service running from 5am to midnight. During peak hours, the metro service runs every 2-3 minutes, with one every 10 minutes during off-peak hours. The three metro lines: A (green), B (yellow) and C (red) cover all of Prague city.

The Prague tram system runs from 4.30am to midnight with a late night service available from 00:30 to 04:30. Covering most of Prague city, the most popular routes run trams every 3 minutes during peak hours. Other tram routes run every 8-10 minutes on weekdays and at 15 minute intervals at weekends.

The primary train station in Prague is the Praha Hlavni Nadrazi Train Station and is located near Wenceslas Square.
Nadrazi Holesovice Train Station is Prague’s second train station and is situated just outside the city centre.
