Tower of London and the Crown Jewels
Down though the centuries since it was founded, The Tower of London has been home to lords, ministers, clergymen, knights, traitors and prisoners – but possibly the most interestingly of all, it is the current home of the Crown Jewels. It is not just one tower, but a series of buildings protected by walls and a moat.
The Crown Jewels are now housed in the Jewel House part of the Tower. Some of the most beautiful and dazzling items in the collection include the Cullinan I Diamond (the world’s largest top quality diamond), the Imperial State Crown (set with 2,868 diamonds, 17 sapphires, 273 pearls, 5 rubies and 11 emeralds), and the Koh-I-Noor Diamond (meaning “mountain of light” it is the diamond mounted on the Queen Mother’s Crown).
